AUGUST QUESTION - Quote: "Although I have written a short story collection, the form found me and not the other way around. Don't write short stories, novels or poems. Just write your truth and your stories will mold into the shapes they need to be."
Have you ever written a piece that became a form, or even a genre, you hadn't planned on writing in? Or do you choose a form/genre in advance?
MY ANSWER - I've been intentionally writing short stories for a while. Most of my pieces are intentionally one form, or genre, over another.
How about you? Have you ever written a piece that became a form, or even a genre, you hadn't planned?

I love writing short stories :)
I've always written with science fiction as the intention.
Great to read your response. I can relate.
Intentionally writing is perfect. We all write differently. :)
Hi, Sylvia! That's great you like short stories. I tend only to write novels, and sometimes it's tough to motivate for 80K words!
I have to have an idea as a starting point, and as a framework for where the story is going. The idea dictates the genre and the format, usually.
Your blog post on "IWSG Form Genre" is a fascinating exploration into the world of writing and storytelling. As writers, we are always on a quest to enhance our craft.
