Xenia: Ancient Greek Concept of Hospitality

I want to teach my children to have a close relationship with our Lord and Savior. Prayer habits that last a lifetime are most often formed in childhood. As adults model meaningful prayer lives, kids will learn how they, too, can talk to their Creator. That’s why each day this month I will be writing a prayer inspired by a different letter of the alphabet and sharing an accompanying verse from the Bible.

Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Romans 12:13

Father, I thank You for my home. Show my heart opportunities to open this home to others. I want to share what You have provided for me. As I practice hospitality, may Your love shine through my life. Help me to value everyone who enters here. I am grateful Your Spirit is present and I pray for a generous and open heart. Please use my home for Your good purposes. Amen.

What a wonderful prayer, especially as the summer season starts and my house begins to fill with visitors and family! Thanks

Hospitality is a wonderful thing. Some people are naturally hospitable others have to work at it. I like the Bible story about entertaining angels unawares. I'm sure I've met angels in my travels.

Xenia is a good example of open-hearted hospitality. The shape of the friut container is very similar the the carved Bali xylophone I used yesterday.

In person, I am an incredibly shy and introverted person. Opening my home to others doesn't come easy on many levels. It is something that I need to work on.

Thank you for this post and prayer. Have a great day!

My mother was (is) a perfect example of opening her home. I remember grocery shopping with her as a child before one particular Thanksgiving and seeing her checking the shopping carts we passed. She invited those who didn’t appear to have much (in their carts) to our home for the holiday dinner. :) She's a good person.
