Tell your story about love lost or found in this special Valentine's blogfest. Your post can be a short fiction, an essay, poetry, or even a song--let your imagination run free. Any genre is fair game, be it romance, historical fiction, memoir, or even science fiction. After all there are no limitations when it comes to love. MY LOST LOVES: pets who've passed away, a high school sweetheart, students I've taught who moved on and probably forgot me, family members who've passed away, friendships that became toxic.

MY FOUND LOVES: My husband who is perfect for me, the two daughters he gave me, the dog he gave me, my friends, my family, travel, writing, and the students I teach.

Pets never last as long as we wish they would.
You have a great list of found loves!

We can't do pets, thanks to allergies, but I remember having them as a kid and how much we enjoyed them.

Love that bit about your husband. There's nothing better than an awesome match!

I've lost a lot of beloved pets over the years.

My husband is pretty perfect for me too. We're both massive dorks, and he understands my scatter-brained ways. He also made possible our crazy but adorable sons.

Losing pets is always a hard one. And appreciating the love you have now is always important =).

They say pets come to us to teach us about both unconditional love and loss... I find that to be true. It's a horrible experience, but loss is as much a part of life as finding, enjoying, and appreciating, love. Nothing is forever... It behooves us to live in the here and now. (Like dogs :) )

So glad you joined the Lost & Found hop, Sylvia—thank you for a great contribution!

Great list of lost and found loves! I notice that you put the loss of pets first. I've had 7 dogs that have passed and are now waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. The loss of a dog's love is so painful, sometimes more painful than when losing a person. I've come to the conclusion that the reason the pain is so deep is that the loss is of unconditional love, something that I don't believe is completely possible between humans. There are always conditions. But not with dogs.

So glad to hear that you and your husband are so perfect for each other. You are very blessed.

Loved your first poem!! Thanks for sharing that...

I remember all of my pets and all of my teachers. Teachers make much more impact than you're giving credit.

I guess we all could write quite a list of lost loves. If I were only to list the pets we've loved and lost over the years, the list would be pretty darned long. What matters, though, is that we keep adding to the found list to balance things out a bit. Animal shelters are always happy to help. :)

I haven't forgotten any of my school teachers. My wife, who teaches kindergarten, has told me stories about encountering students after several years who still remember her and are happy when they see her. Teachers can be such a huge influence.
