First Five

I just purchased this book after receiving multiple recommendations from other authors. This one is written by a Literary Agent whose clients include Pulitzer Prize nominees.

Have any of you read it? Was it helpful?

  1. I have it in my library, and he does offer concrete advice about making the first five pages shine.

His blog however always seemed abandoned. . .going months without updates.

  11. I haven't heard of this, but I'm definitely going to check it out. I have HOOKED (Writing Fiction that Grabs Readers at Page one and Never Lets Them Go) by Les Edgerton. It's a great little book and I found it very helpful. But I'm definitely going to pick up your suggestion!

  17. I do believe I own that book now that I think of it. And if I recall it was pretty good. Reminds you of things you may have overlooked if you've been writing a while, and I good book if you are just now getting into novel writing.

  19. I've never heard of it, but the title speaks loud and clear and I agree with it, both as a reader and a writer. The first five pages need to grab hold and not let go.
