The Art of War for Writers

I have yet to read this book, but a quote excerpted from it by author Katherine Neville caught my attention:

"Write. Remember people may keep you (or me) from being a published author, but no one can stop you from being a writer. All you have to do is write. And keep writing. While you're working at a career, while you're raising children, while you're trout fishing - keep writing! No one can stop you but you."

So very true. Has anyone read this book? If so, do you recommend it?

Well, I'm off for the weekend to celebrate my seventh wedding anniversary. Copper is the traditional gift. Really?

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Keep writing!

Sidenote: Mr. Linky has been fixed on the previous post if you would like to sign up for the blogfest. I'm sure it was a user error. ;-)

Congratulations on your anniversary. But, really, copper? After seven years?

  4. Loved the quote. I think a non-traditional gift sounds better. Have fun!

  5. I will have to check this out for a friend who keeps lamenting that she "isn't a writer, though she wants so badly to be one".

Happy Anniversary! My DH and I also celebrate 7 this year, on Aug 7th.

I don't have anything copper to send you, but if you want a pretty handmade purse, you can enter my giveaway! :)

  7. Congratulations with your wedding anniversary. Hope there are a ton more to come.

I have bought myself a copy and find that I always fall back on it for info. I personally like the way James Scott Bell uses humor to talk about serious topics at times. I found it to be very resourceful, so yes, I would recommend it.

  10. I read this book some time ago. Short and to the point. A combination of inspiration and technique. Another good book that explains how to write...but still doesn't do it for you! Next week I'm off to work at Our Lady of Hope Children's Home in Spur Tree, Jamaica--my tenth or twelfth trip down. Please don't tell me you're off to some all-inclusive Caribbean resort ;) Have a great weekend!

  11. I have not read it yet, but I am intrigued! I love the quote. And, also, congrats on the wedding anniversary. My 6th is on the 30th of this month. If 7 is copper then I shudder to think what 6 could be... lol

  12. Haven't read the book, but the quote is great. Congrats on your 7th! And there isn't anything wrong with copper...as long as it is accompanied by diamonds. :)
