I just skim over them and keep going. ;)Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10680066584646789184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32407491425448969.post-84967204750459559612013-01-13T09:10:01.882-08:002013-01-13T09:10:01.882-08:00I'm okay then, my chills always go DOWN the sp...I'm okay then, my chills always go DOWN the spine :-)Annalisa Crawfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14943610814274794998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32407491425448969.post-26031079604572378612013-01-13T09:09:59.374-08:002013-01-13T09:09:59.374-08:00I'm okay then, my chills always go DOWN the sp...I'm okay then, my chills always go DOWN the spine :-)Annalisa Crawfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14943610814274794998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32407491425448969.post-15161381252036483812013-01-12T17:16:57.920-08:002013-01-12T17:16:57.920-08:00Happy to say I've never used any of those!Happy to say I've never used any of those!Alex J. Or they're gasping in surprise. Or chuckling nervously. I think they're all just neurotic. I know I have more cliches I'm guilty of, but I haven't revised anything in a while so they're not fresh in my mind.Kristin Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112300139571487439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32407491425448969.post-37257243370936218472013-01-11T09:44:56.692-08:002013-01-11T09:44:56.692-08:00I agree, it can be really tough to write without u...I agree, it can be really tough to write without using cliches because they are so ingrained in our vernacular. I do try to avoid them, but honestly, I think the only people they annoy are editors and thus writers. I doubt the average reader could care less.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17420812031674009935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32407491425448969.post-84493834054123820242013-01-11T08:54:37.467-08:002013-01-11T08:54:37.467-08:00Good piece. Still, sometimes a writer gets so far out avoiding a cliche that they stop me in my tracks with their creativeness. I like Joe's advice about highlighting the cliche--I'm going to try that. I usually highlight THAT and WAS and some fo the other unnecessary words hadn't thought about the cliches. I use this technique in many ways. If I have a particular passage that needs embellishment or perhaps I need to fact check something, I simply highlight the passage so that I can go back through the manuscript later and attend to things.Author Joe Perrone Jr.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15936153863508206479noreply@blogger.com
