Xylography is the craft of making engravings in wood for printing purposes.  The term became popular in the nineteenth century to distinguish wood-block printing from using moveable type. To the left is one of the oldest known Xylographs created. I also found this interesting article about the last Xylographer in Germany.
Xylography is the craft of making engravings in wood for printing purposes.  The term became popular in the nineteenth century to distinguish wood-block printing from using moveable type. To the left is one of the oldest known Xylographs created. I also found this interesting article about the last Xylographer in Germany. Xenophile – one attracted to foreign things.
Xenophobia – fear or maybe even hatred of strangers or of anything that is foreign to them.
When creating a new character, consider making them a Xenophile or a Xenophobe. This could lead them into some interesting or even dangerous situations. Happy writing!

I never heard of xylography before, I love learning new words. :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting ideas for the characters, thanks for the suggestion!
I'm with Julie. Love new words. Thanks!
ReplyDeletehaha. I used Xenophobia once in a challenge that required that I begin every sentence of a piece with the next letter of the alphabet. I is a very good word indeed!
ReplyDeleteAlthough of course xenophile expresses a much healthier attitude on the subject. Good X post!
Yes, he had to come from Nurnberg, guessed right. When I saw the illustration thought of Durer. I've often visited his home, love the city, best friend lives there, brought back happy memories for me.
ReplyDeleteXylography - I'd heard about the printing method but I didn't know what it was called.
ReplyDeleteYes, a xenophobe meets a xenophile and falls in love - but they didn't live happily ever after LOL
Yesterday, while looking for X words, I came across a website that said Xenophobia is a fear of other cultures or a fear of people from other countries.
ReplyDeleteWhen writing my another screenplay, I may be able to make one of my characters a Xenophile but it may be difficult to develop a character that suffers from Xenophobia...then again, that could very well be the main point of conflict in the storyline. Thanks for the tips!
The Madlab Post
Now that's a new word for me Xylography. Good X choices :O)
ReplyDeleteAn excellent word: xylography. Is that also a form of art in Japan, wood prints?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your visit and comment today! I found those words yesterday while searching for my X word--that's a good idea about the characters...well, if I was courageous and creative enough to write fiction. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove you X words, especial xylography.
ReplyDeleteXenophile I like this word and its definition. I need to try and incorporate some of these words into my WIP.
ReplyDeleteEvery character needs something unique or fun about them. You're xenophile or xenophobe idea sounds like a winner, unless everyone takes your advice.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I write and teach and am also participating in the AtoZ Challenge.
